What to know about drawdown
If you are comparing Apex EOD and Intraday evaluations, the account size is not the main difference. The important question is what happens to the drawdown while you are still in a trade.
Apex offers both account types. They can show the same account size, profit target, and maximum drawdown. The drawdown is calculated differently, though. That difference can affect how much room you have after an open trade moves into profit and then comes back.
Start with the same 50K example
The figures below are an illustrative comparison for a 50K evaluation. Always check current account conditions directly with Apex before purchasing.
| Item | EOD evaluation | Intraday evaluation |
|---|---|---|
| Starting balance | $50,000 | $50,000 |
| Profit target | $3,000 | $3,000 |
| Maximum drawdown | $2,000 | $2,000 |
| Daily Loss Limit | $1,000 | No DLL during evaluation |
What happens on Intraday
The Intraday trailing threshold follows the account’s highest balance in real time, including unrealized profit. It can move while a trade is still open.
- The account starts at $50,000 with an initial $48,000 threshold.
- An open trade lifts the account to $50,900.
- The threshold moves to $48,900 before the trade is closed.
- If the open profit reverses, the threshold does not move back down.
What happens on EOD
EOD means End of Day. The EOD drawdown is calculated from the account balance at market close. The new threshold is then enforced during the following session. Unrealized highs do not continually reset the EOD threshold intraday; however, the account still has a separate Daily Loss Limit.
Understanding the Daily Loss Limit
In this illustrative 50K EOD example, the Daily Loss Limit is $1,000. Hitting the DLL causes positions to be liquidated and trading to pause for that session; this is different from the account-level drawdown threshold. Confirm current conditions directly with Apex.
Trading platform differences
Trailing threshold behavior can differ across platforms, including Rithmic, WealthCharts, and Tradovate. Review the latest platform-specific rules before choosing an account; platforms may not be interchangeable.
What happens after you pass?
Performance Accounts have separate scaling, Daily Loss Limit and payout requirements. The number of permitted payouts may change. Check the applicable Performance Account rules directly with Apex.
So which makes more sense?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. EOD may appeal to traders who do not want unrealized profit moving a trailing threshold intraday, but its separate Daily Loss Limit still matters. Intraday may suit traders comfortable with a real-time threshold that reacts to unrealized profit.
Before choosing an Apex account
- Compare EOD versus Intraday drawdown mechanisms.
- Check platform-specific trailing rules.
- Understand the Daily Loss Limit separately from maximum drawdown.
- Review current Performance Account and payout policies.
- Recheck official pricing, offers and rules before purchasing.
